Tonja and Kevin Richards of Colorado Corndog & Burger Company with Best of Grand awards in Fraser, Colorado

BIG FLAVOR. SMALL BUSINESS. ONE WILD RIDE.

We’re Tonja and Kevin, the husband-and-wife team behind Colorado Corndog & Burger Company.

What started with a food truck and a pretty simple idea has grown into an award-winning local business permanently parked in Fraser, Colorado, serving hand-dipped corndogs, made-to-order burgers and a whole lot more.

We’ve learned, changed, expanded, screwed a few things up, figured out better ways to do them, and built a business we're incredibly proud to call ours.

And getting here? That's a story.

HOW IT STARTED

THE FRIDAY THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

We had already been considering buying Colorado Corndog Company from friends, and I’d spent a couple of weekends working alongside the owner to see if food truck life was really something I wanted to do.

Then came that Friday.

I finished work, came home and told Kevin, “We’re buying the corndog truck.” I gave my notice the following Monday, and by Memorial Day Weekend 2022, we were officially food truck owners. I finished my shift at my old job at 4:00 p.m. and was dipping corndogs by 4:30.

Neither Kevin nor I came from the restaurant industry. My background was retail grocery management and business-to-business sales, while Kevin came from the trades and operations side of business. So naturally, we decided owning a restaurant on wheels sounded like a perfectly reasonable next move.

Much of those early days were spent with my son Daniel, who was only 14 when we started. The three of us learned this business together, one order, one event and one very steep learning curve at a time.

WE HAD A LOT TO LEARN

Neither of us came from the restaurant industry, so those first couple of years came with a pretty steep learning curve.

How do we get faster? How do we make every order consistent? How do we work together in a tiny trailer without getting on each other’s nerves?

When business was slower, I had time to experiment. We kept the corndogs, burgers, chicken tenders, wings and some of the appetizers from the original business, said goodbye to the seafood because...Colorado mountains...and started trying new things. That experimentation eventually grew into the much larger menu we have today.

We also started finding little ways to work smarter. One of our earliest tricks was using Alexa for hands-free cooking timers. Today, multiple smart devices in the truck allow several people to set timers at once.

As we got busier, we learned another lesson: more isn't always better. Some of the creativity had to make room for speed, consistency and systems that could keep up with us.

We’re still learning, still tweaking and still asking, “How can we do this better?”

FINDING OUR PLACE

WE WENT EVERYWHERE

Our first year, we did just about every event we could find in Grand County. Camber Brewing Company was always our home base, but if there was an event happening somewhere else, chances are we were packing up the trailer and heading there.

Events helped us introduce ourselves, meet people throughout the community and build a following. They also taught us just how much work goes into moving a food trailer.

Packing up. Moving. Setting up. Breaking down. Moving back. And somewhere in there, actually making food.

By our second year, we became more selective about the events we attended. By the third, even more so. We were learning that being busy didn't mean we needed to be everywhere.

TURNS OUT, WE DIDN'T HAVE TO

By year four, we realized something pretty incredible: we had built enough of a following that we didn't have to leave our regular spot to find customers anymore.

They were coming to us.

So instead of spending time packing up, hauling the trailer to events, setting everything back up and doing it all again afterward, we made the decision to stay put.

Today, we're permanently parked behind Camber Brewing Company in Fraser, right where we've been based from the beginning. Staying put lets us focus our energy on what matters most: serving great food, improving the experience and taking care of the customers who have helped us grow.

Turns out, sometimes growing a food truck business doesn't mean going farther. Sometimes it means building something worth coming to.

GROWING INTO OUR NAME

MORE THAN CORNDOGS

As the business grew, so did the menu.

We kept the hand-dipped corndogs that started it all, but over the years we added more burgers, chicken sandwiches, appetizers and plenty of other comfort-food favorites.

There was just one problem: our name still said Colorado Corndog Company.

Even after years in business, we still had people surprised to learn that we served burgers. So in 2025, we decided it was time for the name on the truck to catch up with the food coming out of the window.

Colorado Corndog Company became Colorado Corndog & Burger Company.

The corndogs weren't going anywhere. We were simply making it a whole lot easier for people to know there was more waiting for them on the menu.

And apparently those burgers deserved a little attention. In 2025, we were voted 2nd Place Best Burger in Grand County.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

MORE THAN A FOOD TRUCK

Four years later, Colorado Corndog & Burger Company has become more than we imagined that first weekend in 2022.

We’ve built an incredible team, welcomed customers who come back year after year, watched visitors become regulars, and become part of a community we’re incredibly proud to serve.

Along the way, we’ve been honored with Best of Grand awards, supported local organizations through our monthly fundraising campaigns, and built a business people seek out when they’re hungry in Fraser and the Winter Park area.

But the part we're proudest of can't really be hung on the wall.

It’s remembering your order. Knowing your dog’s name. Bringing dinner to your table while you enjoy a beer. Making a kid feel special. Fixing something when we get it wrong. And creating the kind of place where good food comes with genuinely good service.

We started with a corndog truck.

What we built was a community around it.

COME HUNGRY. WE’LL TAKE CARE OF THE REST.

Whether you’re a Grand County local, visiting Fraser or Winter Park, or just passing through the mountains, we’d love to feed you.
